May 2024: Feed the Keys 2024: A Community Tribute to “Mangrove Mike” Forster

Join us on Friday, May 17, as we come together to honor the memory of our beloved community member, “Mangrove Mike” Forster, with Feed the Keys 2024.

Mangrove Mike’s legacy of compassion and service inspired us all, and one of his greatest goals was to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Last year, thanks to your generosity, we collected a staggering 8,099 pounds of food. This year, let’s aim even higher as we strive to reach our goal of 10,000 pounds!

How You Can Help:
Between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, please donate non-perishable food items at the following locations:

  • Burton Memorial Church (BMC) in Tavernier Keys Area
  • Interdenominational Resource (KAIR) in Marathon
  • Star of the Sea Foundation (SOS) in Key West

Additional Collection Sites:

  • Berkshire Hathaway (Multiple Locations)
  • Royal Furniture in Marathon Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (All substations)
  • Monroe County Courts (All 3 Courthouse locations)

April 2024: Florida Keys Outreach Coalition Receives $30K to Aid Homelessness Prevention Efforts from Ocean Reef Community Foundation

Thanks to the Ocean Reef community’s generosity, the Ocean Reef Community Foundation annual grants program will provide more than $2 million to charities outside the gate for the second year, surpassing last year’s total. The Community Grants program funds scores of worthy charities in the interest areas of Education, Youth, Health & Family Services, and Community in the Upper Keys, Homestead, and Florida City each spring. Including 2024 grants, the program will have awarded more than $18.3 million since the Foundation’s All Charities effort to consolidate fundraising in the Ocean Reef community began in 2008.

January 2024: Many thanks to the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys (CFFK) and donor Jim Speake for the much-appreciated $14,000 donation to FKOC. This donation comes without restrictions, which means it can immediately address any pressing financial need.

Tis the Season to Adopt A Family


The Florida Keys Outreach Coalition works to provide shelter and prevention programs for individual and families struggling with homelessness in the Florida Keys. For more than 25 years, FKOC has been a community leader in responding to homelessness through the 140 miles of islands that make up Monroe County, Florida.

FKOC remains committed to being a community advocate for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Florida Keys while further continuing to develop effective solutions-based services as to address the community’s housing needs.
